In our eighth episode we take a departure from our usual reviews. In the first part of this episode we pair macarons made by Maison de Macarons with the light and sunny Rentsch Radler and the tart and crisp Redbud from Independence brewing while reminecing about Paris and reflecting upon the works of Luc Besson. Mostly The Fifth Element.

Episode 08 - Macarons
This is Ross and tonight we have a full podcast.
We have Clint, Tony, Cutter, and as always Joel.
We have a special show tonight. Instead of our normal review we will be pairing some local beers with local macarons.
And we have a special guest tonight, owner and lone baker at Maison de Macarons, Sarah.
STYLE: Milk stout, also known as sweet stout; these are stouts brewed with lactose (or another unfermentable sugar), which lends sweet notes and body to the beer. THE PITCH: Four-month-old Lakewood Brewing Co. is the latest local craft brewery to offer its beer bottled as well as on tap. The Temptress is a delicious, year-round offering that’s perfect for the holidays. It’s rich and smooth, with lots of chocolate, roasted malt and burnt-sugar flavors, and dried fig notes. At 9 percent alcohol by volume, it’s high in alcohol — even for a milk stout — but the potency is well-hidden. The addition of lactose lends a lovely creaminess, and the low carbonation makes it smooth and easy to drink. The brewery also finished a limited production of a special milk stout aged in bourbon barrels, which will be available on tap only at select craft beer bars. Lakewood Brewing Co. offers brewery tours every Saturday afternoon from noon to 3 p.m. The tour is $10 (cash only), and includes four glasses of beer and a souvenir glass. Live music and gourmet food trucks are on site, too. For information — or to see a video of the first bottling of The Temptress — visit lakewoodbrewing company.com. SERVE IT: Serve it chilled to about 55 F, with beef, blue cheese, chocolate or chocolate desserts and on its own as a dessert.
