In our eighth episode we take a departure from our usual reviews. In the second part of this episode we pair macarons made by Maison de Macarons with the smooth and rich Circle Envy and the silky and curvy The Temptress from Lakewood brewing with more Paris talk from Tony, 90s references, and The awesomeness of the new Jumanji movie.

STYLE: Milk stout, also known as sweet stout; these are stouts brewed with lactose (or another unfermentable sugar), which lends sweet notes and body to the beer. THE PITCH: Four-month-old Lakewood Brewing Co. is the latest local craft brewery to offer its beer bottled as well as on tap. The Temptress is a delicious, year-round offering that’s perfect for the holidays. It’s rich and smooth, with lots of chocolate, roasted malt and burnt-sugar flavors, and dried fig notes. At 9 percent alcohol by volume, it’s high in alcohol — even for a milk stout — but the potency is well-hidden. The addition of lactose lends a lovely creaminess, and the low carbonation makes it smooth and easy to drink. ADVERTISING inRead invented by Teads FUN FACTS: Lakewood Brewing Co. is simultaneously releasing its lager in bottles to retail stores. The brewery also finished a limited production of a special milk stout aged in bourbon barrels, which will be available on tap only at select craft beer bars. Lakewood Brewing Co. offers brewery tours every Saturday afternoon from noon to 3 p.m. The tour is $10 (cash only), and includes four glasses of beer and a souvenir glass. Live music and gourmet food trucks are on site, too. For information — or to see a video of the first bottling of The Temptress — visit lakewoodbrewing company.com. SERVE IT: Serve it chilled to about 55 F, with beef, blue cheese, chocolate or chocolate desserts and on its own as a dessert.
